Caroline stared at the cup of coffee on the table in front of her, silently watching the steam rise and disappear into the air. It was the first time she had had a break since she had been called in early that morning to attend to a meister who had nearly fallen in a fight against a rather powerful kishin egg. He was currently stabilized and resting under the watchful care of his weapon partner and the health teacher, but Caroline had seriously needed a break from the Academy.
Days like these were bittersweet. It was always difficult to see such a young student in so much pain, but it was also satisfying to know that she could do something to help. She could make all that pain go away. Now that boy was alive because of her, but her only celebration was a cup of coffee and a few hours of rest and detachment. She needed to stop thinking about anything related to the DWMA, especially all the times she and Kazuo had ended up in messes like the one from that day.
She glanced out the window at the front of the shop. The sun was already setting. Caroline couldn’t tell if its grinning face was taunting her or rewarding her with a smile, so she chose to look back at her coffee. Touching the side of the cup with a finger, she finally decided it had cooled down enough to not burn her mouth. One sip later and a smile broke through her lips as the warmth of the beverage calmed her nerves a little.
Just a few hours of relaxation, then back to work she reminded herself as she placed the cup back on the table. He’s going to need some more pain meds, and his wounds should probably be rewrapped…. Even though she knew she wasn’t supposed to think about the Academy or its students, Caroline found her mind wandering along on its own. Her eyes were half-closed and she was slightly aware of just how tired she was, but she didn’t realize that, despite the coffee, she was starting to doze off.

Well today was uneventful. After being gone for about 10 years, it was nice to be back into a place he knew or thought he knew. After having a talk with Lord Death himself about what Takashi would be doing at the school, he had the rest of the day off. So he had nothing really to do today. As he walked around the city to see what has changed, Takashi noticed the coffee shop called DeathBucks. Well this was new. As he looked into the window, he saw a face he hadn't seen since he was a student himself. A new shop but an old face. Might as well see what she has been up to since the 10 years.
Walking in, he covered his face with his folding fan. Looking around, it seemed a bit of a fancy place. The smell of coffee filled his nose. After traveling around, Takashi has seen all kinds of shops, and nice to see that the city that he lived was changing a little by little. Takashi slowly made his way to Caroline and took a sit that was across from her. Putting his cane to the side, he folded his fan, and put it inside of his dark green jacket. "Now now you shouldn't dose off like that. You might spill your coffee Caroline."
After he spoke, Takashi reached into his coat's inside pocket and pulled out something to..... Read. It was an adult magazine. In the middle of public with no shame, Takashi started to look into the pages of the magazine with all kinds of females posing as he read the pages. "So what have you been up to Caroline?" He acted like as if they just saw each other just a few days ago. "What has gotten that pretty face so blue in the dumps?"

For a moment Caroline thought she was dreaming. She hadn’t heard that voice in years, yet her mind recognized it perfectly. Takashi…What’s he doing here? Caroline’s eyes shot open only to see the source of the voice calmly sitting across the table from her. The cup of coffee nearly fell from her grip before she managed to place it back on the table.
”Takashi! What a…um, surprise!” she exclaimed as she tried to regain her composure. Her eyes caught sight of the magazine the promeister had pulled out. Wow. It’s like nothing has changed with him she thought as she tried to come up with an answer for Takashi. Of course, sitting across a table from him while he had that magazine out in public was not entirely ideal. She glanced around the shop to see if anyone had noticed, but nobody really seemed to be paying any attention to it…yet. Either he had a reputation that everyone ignored here or nobody had really noticed yet. As long as nobody started freaking out, Caroline was fine with it; it was just one of his strange habits.
”It’s just been a long day, that’s all,” Caroline explained. ”I’m taking a break before I have to return to the DWMA and make sure a patched-up meister doesn’t have any complications tonight. It’s just a little tiring. What about you? What brings you to my random table in a coffee shop?” Oddly enough, Caroline found herself speaking rather casually to Takashi. It was like the words just fell right out of her mouth without any of her usual rage or shyness behind it. This man was a promeister; technically she liked them just as much as she liked those despicable death weapons. Maybe her tired state was making her more relaxed than usual. As if to counter the strange behavior, she took another sip of the coffee in the hopes that the caffeine would wake her up enough to prevent her from letting Takashi get to her.
Then again, she knew she had to be polite in public, even if he was holding a perverted magazine right in front of her. It wasn’t proper to disrespect someone of Takashi’s status, no matter how quirky he could be.

Even while looking at his magazine, Takashi was really listening to what Caroline was saying. Sure he was a perverted man, but he knew when to listen and when to be a goof. His eyes peaked over to look at Caroline. No wonder she seems out of it. She was clearly stressed and being a nurse in a place that trained soldiers couldn't be a easy thing to be. Takashi could recall the visits that he had to make while he was still just a Meister. But he just cracked a smile as it was nice to see a face that he knew after a long travel.
"Little old me? Oh nothing much. Just got back into town the other day. Just met with Lord Death for my new job. I am now the AD Combat teacher. Nothing like teaching the young ones how the older ones use to do things." Nothing like traveling around the world for about 10 years and coming back to teaching. He just let out a small sigh as he really didn't have time to rest or really clean up his old home that he left. "Any who to answer your question, I was just walking around and see how much this town changed. Saw you and thought two old classmates could talk." His tone of voice was calm even while having his magazine out in the open.
This was nice. Sure seeing all those places in his travels were nice but it was nice to see an old classmate and to come back home was far better than anything he could have seen. His eyes shifted back to his magazine and turned a page. "So Caroline, you married?" A strange thing to ask? Well for Takashi asking strange things were only a few things that make him... Him. Then again he did want to learn what others been doing while he was gone for so long. Word Count: 322

Caroline stared at her coffee as Takashi spoke. A teacher? Well, of course. Lord Death always wanted the best of the best for his teachers, and Takashi was more than suited for the job. It meant that Caroline would also be seeing a lot more of him from now on. She didn’t know if this was a good or a bad thing, especially considering Takashi’s rather…odd reputation. She glanced up from her coffee to see that he was still clutching his tasteless magazine in broad daylight. It was a wonder that the management hadn’t called him out on it yet. Then again, this was a promeister. It wasn’t like someone would dare to insult him so easily.
Then Takashi asked the question. It was the absolute worst question he could have chosen, and for a moment Caroline was completely frozen.
Married?
Didn’t he know? It was one of the biggest social catastrophes her generation had seen at the DWMA. Kazuo was gone. He hadn’t returned to Death City ever since. There was no way he was coming back; he was gone. Completely gone. Never coming back. Ever.
Wait. Takashi hadn’t even mentioned Kazuo. He had merely asked a simple question. Of course he probably assumed that she had moved on and found someone else by now. Suddenly Caroline felt extremely childish. She had spent nearly ten years pining over the same guy, and all she had to show for it was an extremely stressful day at work. She found herself blushing, but whether it was from embarrassment, shame, or some other emotion she really couldn’t tell. Despite all this, Caroline knew that she was stil going to wait for Kazuo. Who knew? Maybe he would even show up out of the blue just like Takashi. All she had to do was be patient.
Finally she sighed and muttered, ”No,” before taking a quick sip of her coffee.
”I’m not married. Completely single.” Completely alone. Another sip of coffee.
As the red color faded from her face, Caroline remembered something about Takashi. Hadn’t he had a girl? She didn’t remember too much of the details, but they had seemed very happy with each other when she had seen them together at the Academy. Maybe this was the type of conversation he was trying to lead her towards.
”What about you? Shouldn’t you be married by now?” she asked.

Takashi's eyes peaked up from his magazine looking as he looked at Caroline and waited to hear what she had to say. Did she and Kazuo finally tied the knot? But then she turned red and there was a little smile on Takashi face that was covered by the magazine. So the two did get married. But then his smile disappeared as she said no. Well guess the two broke up or something. After all, Takashi has been gone for ten years and even the time he was here, he was off on missions before that. But before he could answer her question, the manager came up to them. Takashi looked up at the manager and sighed as he knew what the manager was going to ask him. So before the manager could say anything, Takashi closed his magazine and put it away where he got it from. With that, the manager left the two a lone.
"It's hard to find a place to read my magazines in public. Such a pain. Any who..." Takashi looked back at Caroline as he took out his folding fan with his right hand and started to lightly fan himself. "To your question, me and the wife got divorced." He raised his left hand openly and wiggled his ring finger. There was a outline at the base where his ring once were. "After Lord Death sent me out to scout for more students, the wife couldn't deal with the wait and left after only five months into my trip." In truth, that was just the cover story and only himself, his former partner, and Lord Death himself knew the truth. So he really couldn't openly say that his wife became a Witch and that he had to kill her.
He lowered his left hand down as he kept his eyes on Caroline. "Oh my... Two single staff members of DWMA out in a coffee shop. If our students were to see us, they would think we were on a date." His covered his lower face with his fan as he wanted to tease Caroline. "Oh the scandal that will be spread around the school. What shall we ever do?"

Caroline knew Takashi was disappointed that he had to put his magazine away, but she suddenly felt about ten times more comfortable. At least the weird looks from the other customers had stopped, and now she could look at him without pretending she didn’t care about the magazine. It seemed odd how nonchalantly he answered her question about marriage, though. As far as Caroline could remember, they had been very close. She didn’t want to pry, but she wondered what had gone wrong. Even though she didn’t know Takashi that well, she dealt with enough people on a daily basis to know that he was at least partially lying. What he was trying to cover up remained a mystery, though.
For a moment Caroline was beginning to feel comfortable around Takashi, then he had to go and ruin it with his silly insinuations. She knew he was right; if any of the students saw them rumors would definitely start flying. Was he just toying with her? Or was this an honest worry? She was too tired to even try to figure it out. She made a move to splash the rest of her coffee on his stupid face, but she stopped as soon as she lifted the cup. Wasting a beverage on him wasn’t worth her time. He was just another promeister like all the other egotistical jerks she could never seem to like. She had more important things to worry about than him. It wasn’t like the rumors could last that long anyway.
”Listen, if you’re so concerned, why don’t you just go. I didn’t ask you to come here in the first place. The both of us don’t need more annoying rumors floating around the students, especially since we’re both working around them now.”
That oughta show him.
Normally Caroline wouldn’t have been so rude. She might have even blushed and played along, but today she was in no mood for Takashi’s antics. If it was trouble he wanted, Caroline was sure there were plenty of others like him that he could toy with.

Well the whole idea of trying to cheer her up with a light joke went out of the window. It was weird to see Caroline to be so quick to anger. Sure he only knew as a former classmate but he never saw her this angry. But he saw that she did try to throw the coffee into his face for what he said and just let out a sigh. Looking over to the counter, he waved his fan in the air. "Hey! Can you give my lovely friend another cup of coffee. The same one she had." With that said, Takashi put his fan away and reached over to Caroline. Quickly grabbing her cup of coffee and splashed the semi-hot drive on to his face. With that done, he just placed the cup down.
Takashi just leaned back at on his chair with his face covered in coffee and some of it on his clothes but none on his bucket hat that he wore. "Sorry about what I said. I was just trying to lighten things up. Any who, if you were going to splash coffee on to my face, you should have just done it. No fun if you don't act on thing you feel." After he was done talking, a worker from the counter came over with Caroline's coffee and took away the empty one.
His face still covered in coffee, Takashi just wiped away what he could and just smiled at Caroline. "After all, if didn't act on me wanting to come in, then we would never had our little talk about our love life." Takashi just laughed a bit on the whole thing. "Besides, don't you feel a little better? No point in bottling up feelings. Am I right Miss Nurse? That kinda sounds a little sexy. Miss Caroline Nurse. All that's missing is one of those sexy nurse outfits." Taking out his fan he again covered his lower face as he just had some bad thoughts of Caroline in a sexy nurse outfit. "Oh Miss Nurse. I have a slight fever and the only cure if being with you."

Why would I need another cup of coffee? Caroline stared at her cup with gritted teeth. It didn’t look like Takashi was taking her advice and leaving. What kind of game was he playing here? Whatever it was, she wasn’t interested. Suddenly the cup was taken away. Caroline looked up to see Takashi casually splash the coffee on his face before placing the cup back on the table as if nothing had happened.
What?! For a moment Caroline was frozen in stunned silence. Apparently her move to splash him with coffee had not been too subtle. Now she was just confused. What did he want? Apparently Takashi wasn’t as bad as she had initially assumed. A tiny smile broke through her previously angered expression as Takashi explained himself. Yeah, I do feel a little better. The coffee on Takashi’s face was satisfying enough for her, even if she hadn’t been the one to get it there in the first place.
Of course, Caroline should have known that she wasn’t going to get away from all of Takashi’s antics. For once he seemed like a nice guy, then he had to revert to his perverted side again. Caroline’s eyes narrowed as he started talking about her being a sexy nurse. You’ve got to be kidding me she thought as rolled her eyes. His mind is already back in the gutter. Considering how nice he had just been, though, it only seemed right for her to return the favor and play along.
”Oh dear, this looks serious,” she said as she reached across the table to feel his forehead. ”It’s definitely a fever. Looks like we’ll be seeing more of each other.” She sat back in her seat and grinned as if she had won some kind of game. It wasn’t a lie: they would definitely be seeing more of each other because they worked at the same school now. Another cup of coffee was placed in front of her as she waited to see what Takashi would do. Caroline assumed that most girls would have slapped him in the face by now, so she wondered if Takashi had planned beyond his the initial teasing.

This was a little surprise as he didn't think someone like Caroline would make such a statement. Well it was time to see if she would follow through with what she started. There was a grin on his face but was covered by his face. If she wanted to play this little game, then he better see how face she's will to go. After all Takashi was free all the day and had nothing better to do. So flirting around with an classmate should be fun. After all now the image of Caroline in a sexy nurse outfit was stuck in his mind. "Oh Nurse Caroline, you shouldn't..." Quickly Takashi moved his chair to be right next to her and get a little close to her. Placing his arm around her should and still covering his lower face with his face, he moved a slight closer more. "If you think it's really serious then maybe we should have a little privet time in some room. Maybe back at your place?"
If he was to be slapped and pushed away, he wouldn't be surprise by it. Heck he was hoping she would. But this one of those rare times he wasn't really out to get into some woman's pants and just wanted to make a old classmate feel better. Even if it means getting beat up by her. As long as she felt better was all he needs. Putting his fan away back into his jacket, he used his now free hand and would place it right under her chin. Coming closer to her as if he was going to kiss her but only their lips inches away. "What do you say? Will you cure this wondering traveler who finally made it home?" He spoke in a flirty tone to her. Takashi wondered what was her breaking point. The only that would really surprise him would be that she kissed him. After all he was just doing this to tease her.

Apparently Caroline had assumed wrong. Takashi knew what to do when girls decided to play along. Either that or he was really good at improvising. She was starting to think she had dug herself into a deep hole that she wasn't going to be able to get out of when Takashi scooted over to her side, wrapped an arm over her shoulder, and leaned in close. She froze in stunned silence and stared at the overzealous promeister. Alarm bells were ringing like crazy in her head as she tried to come up with a way to get out of this.
Oh no! Ohnoohnoohno! Panic was starting to take over as Takashi leaned in even closer, just mere centimeters away from her face. Too close! He's too close! She wanted to push him away, but her fingers were locked at the base of her seat, clinging to the plastic for dear life. Her face turned beet red and she tried to duck her head to hide it, but she ended up hitting her forehead against Takashi's face. She instantly tried to jump back but only managed to succeed in falling out of her chair and landing in a heap on the ground.
"Ah! I'm so sorry!" she yelped as she sat up. Her face was beet red as she looked up at Takashi to make sure that he was okay. Breaking his nose on his first day back was no way to welcome an old classmate back to town. Oh man! I can't believe this! Her heart was racing in her chest. I should have left when I had the chance. So she couldn't follow up with what she started. This was to much fun as he looked at her red face out of embarrassment. But when it looked like she was going to duck out of the way, all he felt was her forehead landing right on his face. Well this was something he didn't really see. He moved back on his chair from the sudden shock of pain from his nose being slammed. Takashi covered and rubbed his nose. Well it wasn't broken. But it kinda hurt a bit. Taking about not being on guard. But his eyes fixed on Caroline when she fell to the ground.
Looking down at her, she was saying sorry for what she did. Well he didn't really mind getting headbutted, this was a good opportunity to have some fun with her. There was a dumb grin on his face as he thought of what he could do. Quickly looking over her body he knew what he could do with her. "Oh ow. My nose. How can I ever show my face to my students with my nose all broken." It was clearly an act as his nose was really fine. "I wonder how you can ever pay me back for this. I know...."
With the same hand that was covering his nose, Takashi out of the blue copped a feel on Caroline's breast as a pay back. "There. We're even." Takashi's nose was just fine now and just laughed. He was just teasing Caroline. But then he stood up and offered an hand to her to help her up. "Come on. You shouldn't be on the floor so soon."

This was getting way out of hand way too fast. Caroline looked around to see the other patrons staring at the scene she had just made, and Takashi just had to add on the dramatics to make everything worse. I didn't hit him that hard, did I? she thought. There was no sign of blood on his face, and his nose would have been much more crooked if she had actually done significant damage. With her practiced eye she could tell that he wasn't in any serious pain, but that didn't stop him from using her mistake against her. He managed to be his usual pervy self and touch her breast as "payback". She scowled but took his proffered hand anyway and stood back up.
"I wouldn't be on the floor if you hadn't decided to be such a flirt," Caroline said as she straightened her skirt, put her chair back at the table, and took a seat. "I don't think I'll be on the floor again for you any time soon, either. I'm not that easy." Luckily her coffee escaped the scene unscathed, so she took a sip as she tried to calm her nerves as best she could. She fervently hoped that nobody from the Academy had seen any of that mess; her face still held a tint of embarrassed red.
"Anyway, you're back at the Academy." Caroline changed the subject quickly to dispel any further uncomfortable interaction. "Are you still going to be doing missions on the side? Considering your, uh…divorce, I'm guessing you don't have a partner anymore, yet you still came back. I don't see you as the professor type, walking around the halls with a clipboard getting thrills from giving F's to everyone. Lord Death must have sweetened the deal with something, right?" Words: 341 Tag: Takashi Notes: I had a horrible amount of writer's block on this one, so sorry it took so long!

Well she was still had some fire in her. Takashi watched as Caroline got back up and sat back down into her chair. Remarking on what he said about her being on a the floor, Takashi could only grin. "Well how about your bed room next time?" He was still playing around with her. After all he thought that poking fun would lighten the mood up a bit. "Then again, I like a little fight before the main event." He then gave her a small wink.
But before he could really start teasing her more, she brought up the fact he was back at school. He never really liked talking about business stuff, but it was clear that she wanted to stay in the topic of flirting. "Asking so many things at once so soon. Any who. I'll only do missions when needed and while not having a partner could be a problem. But with my skills I can take care of things without one." With his special soul type and the way he fought, Takashi had no problem with taking care of things on his own. But having a partner couldn't hurt if it was the right person.
"As far as the deal the Lord Death had made with me, there wasn't really one. He asked me to come back. He thought my skills could be used at the school for teaching. But I'm sure I can waver a few F's if some of the pretty young female student's show me their panties." There was a slight goofy smile on him, but quickly snapped out of his little fantasy world.
"But back to me being partner-less." Getting closer to Caroline, he looked right into her eyes. "Why don't we be partner? Sure we might need to train a little to get use to each other. But I think I have some ideas for one-on-one time. Maybe your place?" And right around, Takashi went back to flirting. But really he wanted to know if Caroline was willing enough to be his partner. He felt that she felt right for the spot and would like to see how the two would work.

As much as Caroline would have loved for the awkwardness to quickly dissipate, Takashi was not about to let his perverted jokes go. She sighed as he kept using innuendos over and over, her face still a rather heated shade of red from all of her blushing. He answered her questions, though. It appeared that Takashi had come back out of his own volition: no bribes, no perks, no tricks. He had simply answered the request of Lord Death, but she didn't doubt that he would try to use his position to take advantage of some of the young female students (which he confirmed, much to her annoyance). She made a mental note to keep an eye on the girls that became Takashi's students even though she was pretty sure he was just joking.
Takashi changed the subject abruptly. He was close to her, staring into her dark eyes with that flirtatious look on his face. Partners? Caroline's face suddenly went pale. It had been years, a decade, since she had had a partner. Lord Death had tried to help her find someone else, but she had either refused or they simply couldn't handle her. When she looked at Takashi, she didn't see a partner: she saw a perverted old classmate. The kinds of souls she knew she worked well with, Kazuo's kind of soul, was serious, determined, and focused. To Caroline, it appeared that Takashi's soul would hold the exact opposite effect: playful, flirtatious, and downright idiotic. She didn't think their wavelengths would match at all. Her eyes dropped to the cup of coffee before her, the one that Takashi had ordered after he had dumped her previous cup on himself. He wasn't all that bad. He was the one who had made a Death Weapon, not Kazuo. That said a lot about the Promeister, even if he could be a little coo-coo in the head sometimes. Besides, all she had left was ten souls. It wasn't like they'd be partners forever. Nine kishin souls and a witch, then done. It could work. Maybe.
"We can test it out first," Caroline finally said. "At the Academy, not my place. If we find that our souls can work well together, then I can be your partner until I become a Death Weapon. After that, I'll decide if I want to continue working with you. Does that sound like a deal?" Words: 408 Tag: Takashi Notes: New Post!
